The Chinese Calendar is a lunisolar calendar, used for marking traditional East Asian holidays such as the Chinese New Year (the Spring Festival ), the Duan Wu festival, and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Because each month follows one cycle of the moon, it is also used to determine the phases of the moon. The years are arranged in major cycles of 60 years. Each successive year is named after one of 12 animals. These 12-year cycles are continuously repeated.
